One of the greatest tourist attractions of Torrevieja has always been its variety of entertainment for young
people. There are more than a hundred night bars, which have become a major attraction for thousands of
people from all over the world.
The cosmopolitan nature of Torrevieja's nightlife can be seen in its leisure areas. For the real nightbirds
this provision is rounded off by the macro-discoteque Pachá, as well as many other clubs, which cannot
be passed over during a nocturnal pub-crawl (la ruta del bakalao).
During the day Torrevieja also offers a range of leisure and entertainment areas. As well as its beaches
and numerous terraces along its maritime promenade, its great aquatic park (Aquópolis) is swarming
with families, young people and children during the summer months. If you prefer to contemplate and enjoy
the Alicante coastline, there is no better way than by going on a trip on the cruisers equipped with
catamarans in which you can observe the sea bed. Excursions to the island of Tabarca and trips all along
the coast of southern Alicante round off this interesting and unique tourist provision.Finally, for the lovers
of ecological and environmental tourism, you will not do better than visit the lakes of La Mata and
Torrevieja to enjoy a mud bath, recommended by doctors around the world for its curative properties for a
large number of rheumatic dermatological, heart and respiratory complaints.

Every Friday Torrevieja holds one of the largest open-air markets in Spain and sells all kinds of food,
textiles, clothes and accessories. There is also a daily street market which takes place along the
promenade every evening and offers a great variety of handycrafts. Besides, an indoor market is open
daily where you can buy fresh produce: fish, meat, fruit and vegetables.

The town has a good shopping area with lots of independently owned shops selling a variety of goods.
There is also a shopping mall, the Habaneras shopping centre complex, which is open all day and has a
wide selection of shops with underground parking. Across the street, you can visit the games and leisure
complex "Ozone". This centre is more than 10,000 square metres, and it consists of approximately 25
restaurants and bars, a casino, a bowling alley, an 8 screen cinema (with 2 screens in original version),
amusement arcade, etc. During the summer months, there are often additional outdoor activities for
children; such as trampolines and bouncy castles.
Leisure
Amongst lagoons, on a great plain, Torrevieja is located, a destination of great importance. The current
municipality grew next to a tower (Torre), the old one (la Vieja), which gave it its name along with some natural
characteristics that have marked its history and its daily life. The area boasts some splendid beaches, with
which it has developed its tourist capacity in combination with its seafaring and salt-making tradition. Today,
also, the production of Salt, one of the main European producers, has a competitor in international
recognition, the Cuban dances and its International contest, declared as being of International tourist interest,
which celebrates in homage to the “Torrevejenses” that traded with Cuba, colony from which they brought
these melodies. The "Eras de Sal" enclosure receives each year, between July and August, the International
Cuban Dance and Polyphony Contest, declared as being of International Tourist Interest, in which are brought
together the best National and International groups and Chorales. This is not the only cultural event of interest
which is celebrated in the locality, given that throughout the year diverse events, prizes and competitions take
place, such as: The International Poetry Competition, the "Ciudad de Torrevieja" Novel prize, the National
Naval model prize, the National Sculpture prize, the Photography competition, the Painting competition, the
local Poetry and Prose competition, the Literary and Pictorial competition or the traditional Torrevieja Book
Fair.
Sports

The marine tradition of the tourist town of Torrevieja, famous for its salt mines, can be seen in its nautical club
and a modern sports port with over 1,500 areas to moor and installations in which one can learn how to sail,
row and develop other nautical sports as well as rent crafts. Torrevieja has also an equestrian club in which
braking-in, jumping and riding classes are taught with beautiful horses. A modern sports centre with Olympic
tracks, tennis courts, gymnasium, soccer field, Olympic indoor pool, in which swimming g classes are held, and
other sports such as rhythmic gymnastics, handball and basketball, indoor soccer, judo, hockey, ... Five nearby
golf clubs, where national and international championships are celebrated, complete the list of sports offered in
Torrevieja.
An indispensable visit in Torrevieja is that of "Las Salinas". Two enormous salt-water
lagoons declared as a National Nature Reserve, in which is maintained a great variety of
autochthonous fauna like the Flamingo and Eagle. In its surroundings a microclimate is
created which, united to its waters and its mud, maintains great anti-rheumatic properties.
The township of Torrevieja has a great variety of beaches on which can be enjoyed the Sun
the tranquillity provided by the fine sand and crystalline waters. From north to south the
coastline begins with the popular Mata beach with its fine sand and full range of facilities.
Cervera cape is linked to Salaret point by a series of small, rocky coves, particularly those
of El Mojón and Zorras followed by two of the most popular and lively beaches: Locos and
Cura, both with fine sand, calm waters, a full range of facilities plus the constantly bustling
promenade. The port houses the yacht club and a modern marina - where two diving
centres, a sailing school and two charter companies operate - together with a small beach
between the marina and the salt wharf. Daily cruises leave from the port to visit the "Isla de
Tabarca", close to the coast of the municipality, which has been declared a Natural Marine
Reserve. The southern end of the Torrevieja coast is marked by Naufragos beach.
Every moth, due to the cosmopolitan character of Torrevieja, the town has a number of festivities of all
kinds. According to the holiday calendar, the Carnival has become very popular in Spain, and
Torrevieja, where thousands of people participate creating a show of light, colour, fun and lively
atmosphere. The Holy Week attracts many people with the processions, who turn the streets into rivers
of colour, penitence and popular religion. The brotherhoods, with their images, represent the passion of
Christ; the beat and rumble of the drums make the thrones on the shoulders of the faithful march with
order and fervour. The procession on Good Friday is one of the most venerated and admired among
the people in this area. Torrevieja enjoys for one week in May the purest Andalusian style: The May Fair
(Feria de Mayo). Thousands of people visit the stalls, dance the famous “sevillanas” and wear the
typical flared dresses. The atmosphere is complete with the horse riding and the wine tasting, creating
an explosion of happiness shared with all the visitors. The festivities of the Holy Heart (Sagrado
Corazón) are celebrated in the month of June with children games, festivals and live concerts. On the
16th of July is the festivity of the Virgen del Carmen, saint patron of fishermen and sailors, with paella
tasting and several aquatic activities. The Torrevieja festivities of the Purísima Concepción require a
special mention. These are celebrated every year at the beginning of December and the evening
procession on the 8th of December crowns the week, with visitors from all the region and different parts
of Spain.
